BUT WE CAN DO SMALL THINGS WITH GREAT LOVE...
BUT WE CAN DO SMALL THINGS WITH GREAT LOVE...
I remember my mother as a strict disciplinarian, someone who had eyes in the back of her head and somehow had radar and knew what I was up to no matter where I was. Or at least maybe she had me fooled into thinking she could see all and know all.
I can remember that we children didn’t necessarily like her very much.
The years went by, and she grew elderly, which was a total surprise to me. I thought she was ageless and invincible.
When she passed away that’s when all the people whose lives she touched came out to pay their respects. That’s when I started remembering all the things my mother did besides doing her best to protect and raise us to be God-fearing people.
She had an eighth-grade education, and yet she wrote beautiful poetry. She would write special poems for family and friends’ birthdays, or if they had a new baby, or if they were ill. She would send poems as condolences when someone lost a loved one.
She wasn’t a great Sunday school teacher or any type of leader in the church, but she took us to church every time the doors were opened. We were the first ones there every Sunday and that building had a gas heater in the corner, the only heat we had in there. So, in the winter, we would light that heater so the building would be warm when everyone arrived.
We attended the Church of Christ and they observed the Lord’s Supper every Sunday. My mom was the one that prepared it in the little back room of the church. After the services, every week momma took everything home to wash for the next week.
If my mom knew someone was bedridden, she would take food to them, she would bath them or wash their hair. She would groom them so at least they felt a little better while laying there.
Everything my mom did was from love. She did what she could when she could.
“Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love” a quote from Mother Theresa.
But what I’ve come to realize is that when we do those small things with love, they become the great things.
Love is patient, love is kind. I Cor. 13
For His glory,
Debbie
