FOR I WAS HUNGRY……JUST A REMINDER

FOR I WAS HUNGRY……JUST A REMINDER

I was involved in a conversation recently with some Christian brothers and sisters about how we are to react to seeing and giving to people on the streets who are asking for help.  I know we have all probably given money to people who are out there asking for help.

I also realize that there are times we see those same people using the money for something other than what we expected them to use it for.

There are some who won’t give money, but maybe buy them something to eat, put gas in their vehicle or even purchase clothing or blankets for them if needed.

After a sermon or a conversation like the one above, I like to look at the Scripture and see what we are commanded in these situations.

Matthew 25:35 “For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in”.

Matthew 25:40 “and the King shall say, I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me”.

These Scriptures are not new to any of us. These are the ones that keep us going and giving.  Even though we don’t necessarily know how the money or items will be used, we give.  I believe that a lot of the times when we help someone, they do use it to eat or to sustain their life wherever they are living it, even on the streets.

Hebrews 13:2 “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for some have entertained angels unawares”.

This Scripture helps us so much when we doubt whether we need to help someone we don’t know.  As most can testify to, we receive a blessing from reaching our hands out to others and just giving.

And it’s all for His glory,
Debbie
