I BELIEVE IN A HILL CALLED MOUNT CALVARY
I BELIEVE IN A HILL CALLED MOUNT CALVARY……
“There are things as we travel this earth’s shifting sands that transcend all the reason of man,
But the things that matter the most in this world, they can never be held in our hand.
I believe that the Christ who was slain on that cross has the power to change lives today,
For He changed me completely, a new life is mine, that is why by the cross I will stay.
I believe that this life with its great mysteries surely someday will come to an end,
But faith will conquer the darkness and death and will lead me at last to my Friend.”
This is one of the many hymns we will be leading out on at our Night of Worship coming up at the end of July. Some of these hymns stir the feelings and emotions inside of me that I had at the time of my salvation. This is one of them.
As we practiced this song, I asked the question of how many were raised in the church, were saved at an early age or how many were saved later in life. I was raised in church, taught Sunday school, attended three times a week (of course Mama made sure of that), hung out with the church crowd and everything else that goes along with being a member of a church.
However, I was not saved. At a certain point in my life, I know that had I died in that state, I would not have lived in eternity with Christ. The joy I felt of the moment I was saved stays with me.
If you read the words of this hymn, it explains life as we know it. There are so many things in this life that makes no sense to us. These things we fear and are confused by are the things we can feel and touch. They are important to us, but the things that really matter are of God and are spiritual. We can’t touch them or hold them in our hands. This is where our faith comes in.
I know even with all of the craziness and confusion of our world today that Christ still has the power to change lives. He changed my life completely and He can do the same for anyone.
This life we are living now will end. Now, this can cause some fear. We don’t know how our lives will end. Will we pass away before Jesus comes back? And if we do, how will that happen? Will there be pain? Or, will we be alive when Christ returns for His church?
Our faith is the key to it all. That faith that God gave us as a free gift. That faith that helps us see through spiritual eyes exactly what it cost Christ to make a way for us to live in eternity with Him.
Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us”.
“I believe in a hill called Mount Calvary, I believe whatever the cost
And when time has surrendered and life is no more, I’ll still cling to the old rugged cross.”
For His Glory,
Debbie
