LOVING GOD, LOVING EACH OTHER

LOVING GOD, LOVING EACH OTHER. . .

This is one of the songs we are practicing to lead at our Gospel Hymn Singing in July.

“They pushed back from the table to listen to His words, His secret plan before He had to go. It’s not complicated, don’t need a lot of rules. This is all you’ll need to know……….

“Love the Lord your God…..Love your neighbor as yourself.” Mark 12:30-31

I love to shop for pretty things, maybe too much.  But, I do.  Recently, I was driving up to the mall and I saw a lady, an older lady, making her way, very slowly, into the mall.  She was dressed very nice and I figured she was headed in to one of her favorite stores.

My thought was, well I guess that will be me one day, still trying to make my way into the store one more time to get something cute to wear.

As I was walking around the shop, I heard someone behind me make a sound and I heard a shuffle of feet.  I turned and there she was, the same lady I saw walking into the entrance of the mall.   She was tripping on something as I turned and I was in the perfect place to take her hand.

She looked up and we smiled.  Yes, she was quite a bit older and feeble, but she still wanted to be out and about.  She told me thank you and I said to her that I was thankful to be close enough to reach out.  I could see the embarrassment on her face, but there was really no need for that.  I told her that we all need to be out there for each other.  I said I hoped she would be close enough to grab my hand the next time I trip on something. We parted ways and we both had big smiles on our faces.

This sounds like a very simple story and I certainly am not patting myself on the back.  This incident made me think back to my mother.  This is exactly what I saw her do my whole life.  She reached out and helped.

I was thankful that God placed me where He did that day and let me be just a little help for someone.  I think that is one example of loving our neighbor.

And the story never ends . . .
For His glory,
Debbie
