MUSIC MOMENTS
What a great day in The Lord we had yesterday!
As I started thinking about our service, I could not help but think about “How Great is Our God!” It was written by Chris Tomlin in 2004 while he sat on his couch in his tiny apartment reading Psalm 104. The Scripture says “You, our Lord, are very great! You’re clothed with splendor and majesty wrap yourself with light as with a garment.” When he wrote “…and all the world will see how great, how great is our God!” he never thought it would been translated into so many different languages and people around the world would be singing it. We sang it Sunday right here at FBCBC!
145 years earlier in 1859 Francis Havergal, a 17-year-old preacher’s daughter, was inspired to write a poem “I Gave My Life For Thee” after seeing the inscription underneath a German painting. It read “I have done this for you, what have you done for me?” Francis gave up after spending a few hours on her poem and threw it into the fireplace. As the story goes, the paper actually blew back onto the floor, but Francis never noticed. Later that day her Dad, who was a hymn writer, found it and encouraged her to finish the hymn. She did with his help. We sang it Sunday right here at FBCBC!
When we pour our hearts into singing these songs in the same way these artists wrote them, then we bless God. Yesterday, when we sang in one accord, we reverenced God. When Julia Morris played “In The Presence of Jehovah” we felt that same sweet Spirit that we have felt times before. We could truly say “troubles vanish, hearts are mended in The Presence of The King.”
It does not matter the age or the genre of the songs. It is about our heart and how we sing them unto The Lord.
