BK’S KORNER
Last week I went to visit my dad. When I left to come home, I left early in the morning. A little before sunrise. As I drove, of course, I looked for and saw the Morning Star which reminded me of our Bright and Morning Star. Then as the sun rose, I saw something that just really caught my attention. I will try to explain it to you. First however, know that I don’t really think anyone would say that the central Texas landscape is especially beautiful, except for the springtime when the Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brushes are in bloom. Central Texas is not mountainous, but it also isn’t flat. The terrain is definitely uneven, I will say it is a rolling landscape. Much of the vegetation is Mesquite trees, which might actually be a giant thorny weed, and cacti. There are obviously other types of trees but nothing spectacular.
At one point just outside of Luling, I was looking over the landscape. The sun had just risen and was low on the horizon. The pastureland was brown for the winter season. Trees were barren of their leaves. The mesquites dotted the landscape with the occasional cactus. I noticed there were small patches of fog scattered across the rolling terrain. The patches were in the lower lying areas. The fog wasn’t thick. You could see through it. There was steam rising off the water in the tanks (ponds), the cattle were slowly grazing as they searched for something green. Maybe it is because this is home, but I saw so much beauty in that scene. In fact, I thought about pulling over to just look for a while and even take some pictures. As I said, I have never seen or considered Central Texas to be beautiful. But I saw its beauty on that morning. I saw God’s beauty in His creation.
I felt like that is one of the things I was trying to say in my sermons during the Christmas Season. On the surface, a baby born in a barn, sleeping in a feed trough, in a small, poor, dusty town in the Middle East is not very beautiful. Yet, when we see it through the lens of the Gospel, we can see all the beauty, love, grace and the power of God. It is beautiful!
Let us begin during 2024 to see all things through the filter of God and our relationship with Him. Let us see the world in relation to God’s sovereignty. Let us view the things that happen to us from the view of how God might be working to make us more like His Son. Let us look at people and our community from the viewpoint that Christ loves and died for all and desires them to be in a relationship with Him.
It is Time. The Time is Now to put on Christ. To live for Him and to allow Him to live through us.
Actually, it is past time!
Love and Blessings to you all
