BK’S KORNER
I remember this one time when I was in elementary school and a group of us boys were out riding our bicycles and just exploring. We came across a group of Hibiscus bushes and we found that they were loaded with cocoons. We all went home and got us some jars, punched holes in the lids and went back to collect the cocoons. We got to watch the miraculous transformation as after a few days we had beautiful butterflies in our jars which we released. We learned in Elementary School science class that the process of a caterpillar changing into a butterfly is called metamorphosis.
Whenever I recall that time, I am reminded of Romans 12:2 which says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” The word transformed in that verse is the Greek word from which our English word metamorphosis is derived. It describes a complete change or transformation that happens to us. The verse tells us that through our relationship with God our mind is transformed, and it helps us to be able to determine what God’s will is. There is a total transformation, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. We go from being dead to God to being alive and able to know His will.
Another interesting fact I have learned is about the struggle that happens when the butterfly is breaking open and pushing its way out of the cocoon. My understanding is that the squeezing of the cocoon on the body of the butterfly actually pushes blood into its wings. Without this, the butterfly would be unable to fly and would die. The struggle and pressure to get out of the cocoon is necessary to the butterfly’s survival. I wonder if the struggle of our lives is necessary to the strength and survival of our spiritual faith. 1 Peter 1:6-7 indicates that our hardships purify and strengthen our faith. Therefore, we can thank God for the trials.
I hope you are making plans to attend our Thanksgiving Dinner after church on Sunday morning. It is a great time of fellowship and food.
Invite someone to join you. Invite them to church with you so that we can magnify and exalt God’s Name together. Be ready to share a testimony with someone this week. Let’s make God and His works famous here in our community. Let’s make Him known.
Pray.
