BK's Korner

Sometimes the world closes in.  My mom and dad used to live in the middle of nowhere. I used to enjoy just sitting and watching the horses or the turkeys or whatever else may wander by. Now, there is a big housing development going in across the road.  There is a giant Amazon warehouse less than a quarter mile down that same road.  Behind, where there used to be a horse pasture is now going to be some kind of a yard where a company is going to be parking heavy equipment. The world is closing in.

As I was watching the heavy equipment move dirt for the yard and thinking about all of this, I was reminded of the parable of the sower in Matthew 13.  It says that sometimes God’s word falls on thorny ground. As the seed of the word begins to take root and grow the weeds overtake it and choke it out so that it cannot bear fruit.

Whether or not the world closes in around my homeplace is irrelevant.  It is just part of a growing society.  However, if the world surrounds my heart and spirit so that the word of God cannot bear fruit in my life, then that is a definite problem. We need to weed the gardens of our hearts and spirits.  We need to remove the things of the world to make room for the seed of God’s word to grow and produce the desired fruit. Note, that it is not just “bad” things I am talking about.  It is anything that chokes the word of God out of my life.  Too much TV or too much social media and not enough time praying or time spent in God’s word is an example.

Please continue to pray for the sick in our church as well as those who have recently lost loved ones. Pray for God to glorify His name in our church and community. Pray for your staff, deacons and all those who lead us here at FBC. As we move into the holiday season be sure to be grateful. Worship our Lord for all that He has done and will do.

Love and Blessings
