Please take a minute and read Luke 18:1-8.  Meditate on it for a minute.  What does it say to you about prayer? At first reading we can almost get a sense that we have to annoy God into answering our prayers.  He really may not want to but if we just keep on hounding Him, He will eventually answer our prayers.  Of course, that is not the case. Let’s look a little closer.

First, verse one clearly tells us that the purpose of the parable is to teach us “…that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,…”  Therefore, the main thing we need to learn from this parable is that we should never give up on praying.  God’s answer may delay in coming but we should stay faithful. Continue to trust and not lose heart. 

What do we do with the part where it talks about how the judge didn’t regard God or man but only gave her justice because she wore him down? Is that the way God is?  Does He have no regard for us and we just have to pester Him until He answers?

Of course not.  The key to that part of our understanding is in verses 7-8. He says that if a judge who has no regard for people or even God will answer a request then surely God Himself will give justice to those whom He has called.  The answer may not come immediately, but you can be sure He hears and He will give justice.

He also closes the parable with a question. He asks that when He comes will He find faith on the earth?  In other words will we be continually persistent in our prayers.  Will we have faith and believe regardless of the delay? Will we?

Who’s Your One?  Will you be faithful to pray for them for a month?  A year?  Ten years? Will you continue to believe that God will use you to reach someone, or will you give up after one week? 

Watch and pray. Pray for your one and then watch and see what God does. Notice how He opens the door. How He gives you opportunity.  Watch. Pray. Believe.
