BK’S KORNER
Would you understand what I mean when I say that I got my teeth rattled this past weekend?  I mean rattled hard too. Here is what happened.  I went to see my dad this past weekend.  One of the things I wanted to do was to mow his grass. Well about 2 months ago a herd of hogs came through the area and they rooted up my dad’s front yard. I don’t know how many there were but they really rooted it up. The dirt in my dad’s yard is that black clay. It is hard. It is hard when it is dry and honestly it is hard and clumpy even when it is wet.  So the entire front yard had like 2” – 3“  high clumps of clay every 2 or 3 inches apart. It was like mowing over ground that had 3 inch rocks scattered all over it.  It rattled my teeth.  I also noticed that there was no grass left. There was nothing really growing anymore. I guess those hogs ate the roots of anything worth growing.

As I was mowing God brought to my mind a verse from Song of Solomon 2:15. It says, “Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes.” Now, we all have probably heard or even used the phrase, “it is the little foxes that spoil the vines.”  That phrase comes from this verse, obviously. The book of Song of Solomon is about relationships; therefore, this phrase is about relationships.  It is declaring that it is the small things that can destroy or damage our relationships.  A misspoken word. An unintentional deed. A slip of the tongue or an action that really wasn’t meant to harm.  Yet they do. The damage is done in the relationship.  It is usually the small things that do it, not the big things.

This same principle can be applied to our relationship with God. It is not giant, huge sins that hurt our relationship with Him. It is usually the small things. Simple neglect. Neglect of personal time with Him. Neglect of corporate time with Him in the church body.  Maybe it is just a small sin that we make an excuse for, or think is no big deal. Yet it undermines our relationship with God.

I have never considered that a herd of hogs could destroy a yard like that, but they can.  We never consider so many of things we do as being destructive in our relationship, but they are. We don’t even think about our neglect of our relationship with God as damaging to it, but it is.

Don’t let the little foxes spoil your vines. Mend broken relationships and give attention to your relationship with God.

Come up on Mount Moriah and receive the forgiveness of God.
Invite someone to come sit by you.
Pray for your One.
Get a One.
Pray for your family, friends, and community.

Blessings to you all
