BK’S KORNER
I hope you all had a nice Memorial Day holiday. Memorial Day is a day that we have set aside to make sure that we never forget that people paid with their lives for the freedoms that we enjoy in this country. It is a reminder for us about our own loved ones who paid the ultimate sacrifice. It is a day that reminds us to be thankful and to share the stories of family members who served.
Two Sundays ago I preached from Joshua chapter three. I preached about crossing the Jordan River to take possession of the things God has for us. In chapter four God instructed Joshua to have a man from each of the tribes of Israel pick up a large rock out of the Jordan River when they crossed. Then they were to build a memorial at the place where they camped. He told the people that the stones would stay there so that they would be reminded to pass on the story of how God had stopped the river for them to cross. When the later generations asked what they meant they were able to share of the mighty work of God. It was kind of like a Memorial Day for them.
The year before last I asked you to keep your nativity scene out for the whole year. I know that many of you did it. It was really the same point. Seeing it would be a reminder for us about how special was the birth of our Savior. Maybe the grandkids asked about it. Maybe others saw it and realized that you were celebrating the birth of Jesus all the time. We need to find ways to set up spiritual memorials in our lives too. We need to pass on to the kids and grandkids the stories of how God has worked in our lives. Tell them how you committed your life to Him. Tell them how He got you through difficult times. Tell them of answered prayers. Make sure your family knows your spiritual heritage. Set up memorials that will remind your families about the power and faithfulness of God.
On another note, I want to thank all of you for the way you have rallied around Cheryl and me. We both know that Cheryl is going to be just fine but it nice to hear you say that you are praying for us and walking with us. You are truly a blessing to us.
Blessings and Grace to you all.
Glorify. Go. Gather
