BK’S KORNER
I came home from vacation and had to work in the yard. My grass really grew from that rain you had. I had to mow, weed eat and I burned a few limbs.  Saturday was hot so I made sure to give myself some breaks. I sit under my pecan tree in the shade and drink cold water. While sitting there I heard them. The cicadas. You know, that “buzzing” sound you can hear on hot summer days. Whenever you begin to hear those cicadas, you know that summer has arrived, and it is hot.

Reminds me of when Jesus was teaching His disciples about when the end of time would come He said, “Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near.”  I think He could just as well say to us when you hear the cicadas on a hot day, you know that summer has arrive.

Of course, I understand that Jesus was teaching that there would be signs that would let them know when the end of the age was approaching.  I often wonder if there are signs in our own lives of what is happening to us spiritually.

When I begin to put the study and reading of God’s Word aside, is that a signal that my hunger for it will begin to decrease? When I fail to maintain my personal devotional time with God, is that a sign that I will soon no longer desire Him.  When I do both of those things, is it a sign that the fire of my worship will begin to die?  When I fail to stay close to God will it mean that I will not be able to see people through God’s eyes? I guess just like looking at the fig tree and knowing that summer is near, can I look at my own life and know where I am headed.

In many cases I think the answer is yes.  I often know that if I don’t get my life back on track spiritually, the well will begin to run dry. I think we can predict that we are headed a for season of spiritual drought when we are not doing anything to make sure we are allowing and enhancing the flow of God’s spiritual spring in our lives. There are signs. We need to notice them.

Summer is going to be a busy one! Don’t forget your relationship with God and your service to Him.

Pray for your One.
