BK’S KORNER

Two quick reminders. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with an ESL program here in our church. We will get you trained so don’t worry about that. I just need to know about the interest in a willingness to help.  Also, please let me know if you are willing to help out on a relaunch of the Safety Team.  There is a printout with a little bit of information on both of these ministries. Pick one up and let me know.

I hope that some of you will come along side of me and help to plan a Fall Church Attendance Campaign.  At this point, that is what I am calling it.  I will host a meeting Sunday night at 5:30 pm.  We can meet in the sanctuary so there will be plenty of room.

A couple of weeks ago I went to see my dad.  As I drove through Luling I saw some people selling watermelons at a place that we used to call “The Scales”.  I remembered as a kid working in some of those watermelon patches around Luling. I’ve planted the field. Hoed the rows and picked, tossed and stacked watermelons on trucks.  I’ve even sat down at those very same scales with a truckload of watermelons to sell. I was thinking of all the different kinds of watermelons.  We had the large round dark green ones that we called Black Diamonds. Of course, there were the striped ones.  There were even some smaller very light green watermelons that we called greys. I cannot forget those yellow meat watermelons.

I remember being taught that watermelons grow best in a sandy soil.  That was a reason they grew so well around Luling. There is a lot of sandy soil there. You know sometimes we may think that we can just grow anything anywhere. However, often certain plants grow best in certain soils. You know the seed of God’s Word needs a certain soil to grow in. You can read Luke 8:4-15 for a parable from Jesus on this very matter.

I think the bottom line is that the seed of the Word of God grows best in ground that has been prepared. It has been plowed and disked and is ready to receive the seed. Jeremiah 4:3 and Hosea 10:12 both tell us to break up the fallow ground of our hearts so that God can plant in us what He desires to grow.  So, try it. Worship for your self during the week. Read God’s word daily. Pray and draw near to God.  See if it doesn’t have an affect on what happens to you on Sunday morning as you gather with God’s people. Try it. Let’s see what happens. God’s Word grows best in prepared soil.

Please continue to pray for our community, church, and your One.

Blessings to you all.
