Communal Fellowship
The sermon series “All in the Family” continues with 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. Paul has outlined that every believer in Christ possess spiritual gifts. They are not for personal benefit or selfish indulgences. The purpose is to exalt Christ and edify the body of Christ, the church. Paul utilizes the analogy of a human body to demonstrate the need of the variety of the gifts. God has orchestrated the distribution of gifts to individuals within the church for the ability of the corporate church to minister out the Gospel effectively. In Paul’s illustration some are a foot, some a hand, some an eye, etc. meant to work together to make the whole productive. When all the parts are functioning in unison for the same purpose a human body can accomplish tremendous task. It is no different for the local church. When the corporate body functions in unison for the purpose of the Gospel, it can do heavenly work right here on earth. What happens when a portion of your physical body is not well? The whole body is out of sync. Again, this is no different for the local church. We must be mindful to encourage, care for, protect, love, etc. each other with the Gospel so we can maximize our ability to carry the Gospel to all. Do you know where you fit in? Do you think you do not fit? God has made you to fit. You have a place. Let’s discover it together.
